Life Vision

Your life vision is your personal north star inside Griply, a clear picture of where you want to go and what you want your future to look like. Unlike goals, which are measurable and time-bound, your vision is broader and more aspirational. It gives meaning to your plans and keeps your daily actions aligned with what matters most.

Example:

“I want to build a career I love while still having time for family, travel, and creativity. I see myself living abroad, working on projects I care about, and staying healthy and balanced.”

If you’re new to Griply’s structure, start with Setting Up Your Life Areas, since every vision is created within a life area.

Vision vs. Goals: Understanding the Difference

A common question is how life visions differ from goals. Here’s how to think about them:

Life Vision

Goals

Scope

Broad and aspirational

Specific and measurable

Purpose

Defines where you want to go

Describes how you’ll get there

Timeframe

Long-term, sometimes lifelong

Short- to medium-term

Example

“I want to stay healthy, energetic, and confident in my body.”

“Run a half marathon in May.” or “Lose 5kg by October.”

In Griply, your vision sets the direction, and your goals break it down into actionable steps.

Why Your Life Vision Matters

Without a clear vision, it’s easy to stay busy without moving closer to what you truly want. A life vision acts like a compass:

  • Helps you prioritize what really matters

  • Keeps your goals, habits, and tasks aligned with your bigger picture

  • Provides motivation when daily planning feels overwhelming

Think of your vision as the destination on the map. Your goals, habits, and tasks are the steps that get you there.

Inspired by the 7 Habits Stephen Covey calls this “starting with the end in mind.” By picturing your ideal future first, you make better decisions today. Griply is designed around the same principle, helping you translate that big-picture vision into clear goals, habits, and actions.

Where to Create Your Life Vision

Each life area in Griply has its own Vision tab, where you can describe your ideal future in that area.

To set up or edit your vision:

  1. Go to the Life Areas tab in the sidebar.

  2. Click on a life area (e.g. Sport & Health).

  3. Switch to the Vision tab.

  4. Write down your vision using text.

  5. (Optional) Upload images to make it more vivid and inspiring.

Example Sport & Health vision:

“I feel energetic, strong, and confident in my body. Staying active is part of my routine, and I enjoy habits that make me feel balanced.”

Example Visions for Inspiration

Here’s how users shape their visions across different life areas:

  • Work & Career → “I want to run my own business, lead a small creative team, and have the flexibility to work remotely three days a week.”

  • Money & Finance → “I see myself debt-free, with an emergency fund, and investing consistently for early retirement.”

  • Education & Learning → “I want to continuously grow my skills, master two new languages, and take a design certification next year.”

  • Fun & Relaxation → “I travel to three new countries every year and make time for hobbies like painting and hiking.”

  • Family & Friends → “I want to spend more quality time with the people I care about and be fully present when I’m with them.”

  • Personal Development → “I want to be more mindful, confident, and resilient. I regularly read, journal, and work on my mental fitness.”

How to Write an Inspiring Vision

Writing a vision doesn’t need to be perfect from the start. Here are some tips to make it powerful and personal:

  • Dream big → Imagine your ideal life without limitations.

  • Be specific → Use clear descriptions so you can visualize it.

  • Make it vivid → Use emotional language or add images to make it real.

  • Stay authentic → Focus on what you truly want, not what others expect.

Pro tip: You can always refine your vision later. What matters is starting somewhere.

Turning Your Vision Into Action

A vision without action is just a dream. In Griply, your life vision guides your planning:

  • Set goals within each life area to move closer to your vision.

Example: If your Fun & Relaxation vision is to explore the world, a goal could be “Plan a three-week trip through Japan.”

  • Break down goals into actionable tasks and habits.

  • Integrate your vision into planning:

Reflecting and Updating Your Vision

Your vision isn’t fixed. As your priorities evolve, you can revisit and refine it:

  1. Go to the Life Areas tab.

  2. Select the relevant life area.

  3. Open the Vision tab and edit your statement or images.

Pro tip: Set a recurring reminder (for example, every 6 months) to review your vision and make sure it still matches where you’re headed.
