Tasks

Tasks are at the core of how you get things done in Griply. Whether you’re capturing a quick idea, breaking a goal into actionable steps, or scheduling work for the week, tasks give structure to your plans. You can keep them standalone or link them directly to your goals or life areas for better organization.

Adding a Task

You can create tasks almost anywhere in Griply, inside goals, within life areas, or as standalone tasks. There are two main ways to add one:

On Desktop & Web

  • At the bottom of any list → Scroll to the bottom of your current view and click “Add Task”.

  • Quick capture → Press CMD + N to instantly create a task without leaving your current view.

On iOS

  • At the bottom of any list → Scroll to the bottom of your current view and click “Add Task”.

  • Or, tap the “+” button at the bottom right of any list.

  • Or, if you’re using the Griply widgets, add tasks directly from your Home Screen.

Tip: Use standalone tasks when you just need to jot something down quickly. If a task is part of a larger goal or project, link it to that goal right away for better context. You can read more about how goals work in the Goals article.

Adding a Description

Each task can have an optional description. Use it for extra context, instructions, or links.

Subtasks

Break complex tasks into smaller, more manageable steps by adding subtasks:

  • Open the task

  • Scroll to the Subtasks section

  • Add as many as you need

You can reorder subtasks via drag-and-drop, mark them complete, or delete them without affecting the parent task.

Tip: Right-click a subtask inside the task dialog to delete a subtaks quickly.

Tip: Subtasks are perfect for multi-step actions. For bigger, outcome-driven efforts, consider creating a goal instead and attaching tasks there.

Link to a Goal or Life Area

Tasks can either stand alone or be linked to a goal or life area:

  • Open the task

  • Select Link To and choose a goal or life area

Linking tasks keeps everything connected. For example:

  • Goal → "Launch website"

  • Task → "Write homepage copy"

Tip: Many users treat goals as projects, which works perfectly in Griply.

Adding a Repeat Schedule

If a task recurs regularly, turn it into a recurring task:

  • Open the task

  • Tap the Repeat icon

  • Choose from options like Daily, Weekly, or Custom

Recurring tasks behave like habits in Griply — they’ll reset after completion and continue to appear based on your schedule. For more on setting up habits, read creating habits & recurring tasks.

Scheduling (Date & Duration)

Set a date to plan when you’ll work on a task and a duration to block focused time in your calendar view.

  • Add a date directly from the task dialog.

  • Specify how long the task will taks, this helps when you plan your day using time blocking.

Tip: In the calendar view, you can drag and drop tasks to reschedule them, and resize their blocks to quickly adjust duration.

For more details on advanced planning, see Scheduling Tasks & Habits.

Deadlines

Unlike scheduled dates, deadlines represent the final date by which a task must be completed. Griply visually highlights tasks approaching their deadline so you can prioritize accordingly.

Tip: Combine deadlines with scheduling for better planning.

Priorities

Use priorities to focus on what matters most:

  • Mark tasks as High, Medium, or Low priority

  • Group or sort your views by priority to see your most important work first

For tips on combining priorities with planning workflows, see weekly planning.

Tags

Tags make it easier to organize and filter your tasks:

  • Add multiple tags per task

  • Use tags for contexts (e.g. @calls), energy levels (e.g. deep-work), or custom categories

Later, you can filter your lists or planners by tag to focus on exactly what you need.

Reminders

Set reminders for time-sensitive tasks so you never miss a deadline:

  • Open the task

  • Tap Add Reminder and choose a date and time

Using the Right-Click Menu

On Desktop, right-click any task (after you created it) to quickly:

  • Edit its details

  • Duplicate it

  • Reschedule it for Today, Tomorrow, or Next Week

This is the fastest way to keep your plans up to date without opening the full task editor.

Adding Tasks via Widgets (iOS)

Griply’s iOS widgets make it effortless to capture tasks on the go:

  • Add the Quick Add Task widget to your Home Screen

  • Tap once, enter your task, and it’s saved instantly
