Daily Planning

Effective daily planning isn’t just about checking boxes, it’s about aligning your energy, priorities, and time with the things that truly matter. In Griply, your day starts with clarity: a single view that brings together your tasks, calendar, goals, and habits. This article will guide you through creating a daily routine that’s not just productive, but sustainable.

We’ll cover everything from time blocking and sorting tasks to grouping by goal or priority. Whether you're planning deep work, managing meetings, or simply trying to stay focused, Griply gives you the structure and flexibility to make it happen.

Morning Planning Routine

Start your day with intention. Here’s a powerful morning setup you can use daily:

Open the Daily Planner

Go to the Today view to get an overview of everything planned.

Review Overdue Tasks

Tasks from previous days appear at the top. Decide whether to:

  • Move them to today (right-click → Plan for today)

  • Reschedule (right-click → Plan for tomorrow or another day)

  • Remove the date (right-click → Clear date and time)

Check Your Calendar

Make sure your calendar is visible (toggle it using the calendar icon at the top right). This syncs with your Google or Outlook calendar and shows upcoming meetings and events.

Prioritize Intentionally

Use priorities (1–3) to highlight what truly matters. A common technique is the MIT (Most Important Task) method:

  • Pick 1–3 tasks that must get done today

  • Make them non-negotiable

Time Block Your Day

Use time blocks to create structure:

  • Click on a calendar time slot to add a block for a new task. Or drag and drop a task from the task list onto the calendar.

  • Use blocks for specific tasks or focus periods (like deep focus).

  • Want to block time for an entire goal or life area? Go to the Upcoming calendar view → click All tasks (top center) → Drag and drop any goal or life areas from the right side into the calendar.

Tasks with a recurring schedule (e.g. “Write newsletter every Friday”) will automatically appear on those days, no need to re-add them each week.

This method helps you visually organize your day and reduce decision fatigue.

Plan Time for Habits

Toggle Show habits on (via the sliders icon) if you want them visible today.

  • Add habits at natural times (e.g. morning journaling or evening walk)

  • You don’t have to time block every habit, but consider when they realistically fit into your day.

Using Tags

Tags add context and help filter tasks. Some examples:

  • #deepwork → Filter for tasks needing focus

  • #quickwin → Tasks under 5 minutes

  • #meeting or #admin → For smoother planning

You can filter by tags using the filter icon next to the calendar.

Tips for Better Planning

  • Break down big tasks into smaller chunks with subtasks

  • Schedule deep work in the morning, lighter tasks in the afternoon

  • Avoid overplanning: Leave buffer time between tasks and meetings

  • Group similar tasks together (e.g., all admin work) to reduce context switching.

During the Day

Your daily plan is a guide, not a rigid rulebook. Use it actively:

  • Check off tasks and habits as you complete them.

  • Adjust your schedule when the unexpected happens.

  • Move tasks to a different day (right-click → reschedule).

  • Use the Today view as your command center.

Want to stay focused and avoid burnout? Try using the Pomodoro Technique:

  • Work in short, focused sprints (typically 25 minutes), followed by a 5-minute break.

  • After four sessions, take a longer break (15–30 minutes).

  • While Griply doesn’t (yet) have a built-in Pomodoro timer, there are great third-party timers you can use alongside your planning routine.

This technique helps maintain focus, reduce procrastination, and manage mental energy throughout the day.

Quick capture tip: If a new task or idea pops into your mind during the day, add it to your Inbox right away, don’t interrupt your flow. You can sort and schedule it during your next review.

End-of-Day Review

Don’t just finish your day - close it with intention.

  • Check off what’s done: It’s satisfying and reinforces progress.

  • Reschedule what’s left: Right-click to move unfinished tasks to tomorrow or a better day.

  • (Optional) Reflect: Take 2 minutes to consider:

    • What went well today?

    • What got in the way?

    • How can I improve my plan tomorrow?

Grouping, Sorting & View Options

Griply’s Daily Planner lets you customize how your tasks are displayed—so you can plan in a way that matches your energy, focus, and style.
