What is a life planner?
A life planner is a tool designed to help you define your high-level "Why." Unlike a daily to-do list, which manages what you do, a life planner is a structured system for articulating your personal vision and mapping out the core "Life Areas" that matter to you, such as "Career," "Health," and "Growth."
Is a life planner the same as a goal planner?
No, they are different but connected. A Life Planner is the foundational step; it's where you define your "Why" (your Vision and Life Areas). A Goal Planner is the second step; it's where you build the "What" (the specific, measurable plans and Subgoals) to achieve that vision. A complete system needs both.
How do I create a life plan for myself?
A simple, effective way to start is by identifying and mapping out your "Life Areas", the high-level pillars of your life (like "Career," "Health," "Finances," "Relationships," etc.). This provides a clear, balanced structure. From there, you can define a long-term "Vision" for what success looks like in each of those areas.
What should be included in a life planner?
A comprehensive life planner should include two key components:
A dedicated space to define your high-level, long-term Vision (your "north star")
A structured way to map out your Life Areas (the core pillars of your life) to ensure you are building a balanced plan, not just a "work" plan.
How do you write a personal vision?
A personal vision is a clear articulation of your "Why." A great way to write one is to project 5 or 10 years into the future and describe what "success" and "alignment" look like for each of your Life Areas. This provides a concrete "north star" that all your future goals can be measured against.
Why do I feel busy but not productive?
This feeling is a common symptom of the "Action-Purpose Gap." It's the "misalignment anxiety" that comes from your daily tasks being "Why-agnostic" and disconnected from a larger purpose. A life planner is the antidote, as it connects your daily actions (your "what") back to a clear, documented "Why."
